To Rory O’Connor, the American dream means having the freedom to pursue whatever one’s dream may be.

Rory always knew he would leave Ireland someday, following a national ethos of emigration. What he didn’t know, however, is that this emigration would follow being kicked out of college in Ireland. Once in Kansas City, Rory enrolled in a university again, succeeding so wholly that he received a full ride to Stanford after completing his undergrad. Now, Rory owns a successful construction company and oversaw construction of one of the greatest soccer stadiums in the world.

“I think that there is a lot of opportunity here, but you have to have the drive, and ambition, and the talent,” Rory said.

Rory’s happiness is found in enjoying the fruits of his labor. If he were in a different city, or back in his home country, he might not have the same opportunity for achievement.
